I’m confused. That’s really all I have to say about this. I wish so much that I didn’t have to miss class today because I would have loved to have been there for the discussion today, I feel like it would have really cleared things up.
After reading pages and pages about how to interpret and understand Revelations, I honestly don’t feel any more enlightened as to what the heck is going on in that book – in fact, maybe I even feel less sure. I also really don’t understand Cosby’s approach to interpreting this book. Half the time he seemed to be saying that Revelations and everything like it was just stupid religious propaganda from way back when, but then he also seems to think that it should be taken seriously. But then he also makes the connection to Barney, which makes even less sense to me. Like what. Why is that necessary or relevant or helpful? Isn’t he just mocking the way that ancient writers used numbers as symbolism? I’m so confused, I just really am. I don’t know how to process all of this or what conclusions I’m supposed to come to about it all.
Yeah. I just really don’t know whether or not I should, in Cosby’s opinion, take Revelations seriously. Personally, I feel like since it’s in the Bible, it should be taken very seriously but I have no idea how to understand what it’s saying or why it’s a part of the Bible. I guess I’m confused about that too – why is Revelations a part of the Bible? What purpose does it serve? What should I be taking from it? Is it just an example of works of its kind? Is it the best example? Is it just a collection of historical “political cartoons”, like Cosby was comparing it to? Then does that mean it holds only historical significance? Is it just an example of how people are always thinking that it’s the end times? So many questions. So little hope that I’ll ever understand what the heck that book is talking about.
